Please Contact Your MP in Canada

This post is a little different today. It has to do with a family under threat of deportation. The International Association for Refugees Canada, which I am connected with, knows this family and is asking everyone to advocate on their behalf.

"One of the refugee families we know and love needs our help. They have had a long and complicated journey and encountered many problems with our systems along the way. The bottom line is that they are currently facing deportation. We think this is unfair and wrong and are trying to stop it. A few more details about their family are included below if you want them. But mostly we would ask that today and tomorrow you take a few minutes to please contact the government officials listed below.

The ask is some variation on the following: Allow the Almassy/Palfi family to stay in Canada to have their case assessed. The boys' best interests have never been assessed, and after 7 years in this country it is only fair to do so. Let the ongoing court process play out. Let them have their day in court. If you know the family and want to include a personal word of support, that's fine too.

You can do this through email, phone, Twitter (public), or Facebook. Social media is good because its public, and please use hastag #TeamPalfi Contacts are below.

Elizabeth Almassy, her husband Tibor and their 2 boys Adam and Marton came to Canada over 7 years as refugee claimants and stayed at Micah House during their first few months. They are an exceptional family - hardworking, community oriented, smart, and kind, involved in their church- the kind of family we need and want in our country. Their boys have grown up here and they have built a life here. For various reasons their refugee claim was not accepted but they were able to make a humanitarian and compassionate grounds application to stay in Canada. They have a strong application but the government of Canada is trying to deport them before their case can be determined. It is especially difficult for the kids. Their oldest son Adam is in his final year of high school and has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to U of T. He desperately wants to stay and pursue this opportunity. We strongly believe that it is in his best interests to be able to stay in Canada to finish his final semester of high school while they wait for a decision on their H & C application.

It will make a difference! We need to saturate these government leaders this week with emails and voice mails, and social media.

Global News is doing a story on the family that will air this week, so things are happening.
